PADI Scuba Diver & Junior Scuba Diver

Most people have pretty busy lives, so we aim to structure this course to fit in with your lifestyle.

The academic and confined water (swimming pool) part of this course usually takes place over a couple of days, but it can be broken down differently to suit your schedule. The academic side of the course can be done either through Scuba School classroom sessions or via PADI’s online training programme.

The open water section of the course will take place at a local coastal site, like Wainui, Pohatu/Flea Bay marine reserve or Lake Coleridge, depending on the weather conditions. There is also an option to undertake this section of the course in Kaikoura. The open water section of the course consists of four dives, during which you put into practice what you have learnt in the pool.

What equipment will I be using?

In the PADI Scuba Diver course, you learn to use basic scuba gear, including a wetsuit, mask, snorkel, fins, regulator, buoyancy control device and a tank.

Pool training

When you’re fitted with your scuba equipment you can begin your pool training. During the three pool sessions, your instructor will put into practice the techniques you learned in the academics program. Your training dives will be logged and approved by your instructor before you move on to open water.

Open water training

Get ready to experience everything you’ve learned with the freedom of open water. You will undertake two open water dives. As soon as your open water training dives are approved by your instructor, you will be ready to dive under the direct supervision of a PADI Divemaster, Assistant Instructor or Instructor to a maximum depth of 12 metres/40 feet.
