We have access to the best diving in New Zealand and beyond, and we can’t wait to share it with you. Some of the locations we regularly use for training and practicing your newly-acquired skills include:
(If you’re interested in locations for dive trips, click here)
Kaikoura: Kaikoura is 180km north of Christchurch and is where the Hikurangi Trench comes to within a few kilometres of the shore and two ocean currents, one warm and the other sub-Antarctic, meet. While the earthquakes of 2016 changed some of the underwater landscape, this rocky coastline still offers fantastic diving. The upwelling from the Hikurangi Trench is home to a huge variety of sealife, including fur seals, dolphins, orca, a variety of whales and crayfish. We use a variety of dive sites around Kaikoura for both instruction and guided dives.
Banks Peninsula: Banks Peninsula lies south-east of Christchurch and provides us with a number of dive spots for both instructional and charter dives. The jewel in the crown is Pohatu/Flea Bay Marine Reserve, where we can encounter little blue penguins, white flippered penguins, NZ fur seals and Hector’s dolphins, as well as the healthy fish stocks that have flourished in the marine reserve environment.
Instructional dive locations: Sometimes the weather and sea conditions do not allow us to dive in the ocean, so we have a number of alternative freshwater dive sites at lakes around the Canterbury region. These include Lake Coleridge and some smaller lowland lakes that give us the opportunity to practice the skills learnt in the pool in a more challenging open water environment.
